Comité de restauration de l'église - Church restoration committee

It is now more than 30 years ago that the Sénéchas Church Restoration Committee was declared to the Alès sous-préfecture.

Its aim was to facilitate the restoration of the local parish church, part of the Cévenol heritage, by seeking and coordinating the necessary funds.

The committee was created under the inspiration of Abbé Jean Roux, parish priest from 1958 to 1993, and has worked since then in close collaboration with the Municipal Council.

The association is led by a committee of 15 members within which there is a core executive group.

Over the years, this prestigious edifice, standing like a lighthouse on top of the hill, has seen several stages of restoration.

The interior restoration and decoration have been made possible thanks to the various events organized by the committee.

The church square

Every year the committee proposes:

- Two bingo sessions (one during the summer and one at the end of the year),

- One themed event before the summer holiday programme,

- A Paella evening during July,

- The traditional country Fete around 15th August.

Apart from these events, the committee:

- Shares with the "Centre Communal d’Action Social" (Council social aid centre) the distribution of year end gift packages to elderly or sick persons unable to attend the Council’s festive meal.

- Carries the expense of heating the church by providing a subsidy of an equivalent sum to the parish.

The interior of the church

Apart from these activities, this association provides an opportunity for many agreeable encounters.

Is it not important for holiday-makers and local people to meet and enjoy themselves together?
